The Powers Art Center in Carbondale, Colorado has recently opened to the public. Grabill fabricated 20 direct set windows, paired with 2 sets of double doors for this unique project. FSC certified vertical grain Douglas Fir and high performance glass was used to produce these adjoining window walls. A combination of common mullion units and site build methods allowed us to achieve a monolithic appearance with minimal sitelines. Three stories of uniquely designed custom windows adorn what is known as the sunroom of this Wisconsin beachfront home. High above in the clerestory, are direct set butt glazed windows that compliment the towering casements below. This clever configuration of windows, provides the room with an abundance of light and a spacious open feel. Grabill Windows and Doors recently received the high honor of being a Fire Tested and Fire Resistant Window as required by the 2013 California Referenced Standards Code for Materials and Construction Methods for Exterior Wildfire Exposure, CA SFM 12.7A-2. This custom wood window features ultra white laminated glass with true divided light glass panes. Throughout the testing, the Grabill window withstood direct flame exposure with the absence of structural failure or flame penetration through the window frame or pane This unique test places the Grabill custom window in an elite category of wood windows that meet the California code. Custom radius segmented curtain wall constructed of sapele mahogany. This site built unit spans 11 ft. tall by 31 ft. wide. Solid glass vertical stiffeners provide structural support and reduce deflection while the butt glazed sections have minimal details for unobstructed views. This towering pivot entry door stands tall at 11ft. high. It’s monumental height is complimented by the robust entry hardware and it’s extraordinary 7 ft. width. The horizontal plank stile and rail door is constructed of American Black Walnut and features magnetic locks at the head and sill.
